It’s been more than 40 years since I shot my first Upland game bird and I’ve
hunted every opportunity since. I mention this time frame because I think those
40-some years of experience means I’ve paid my dues in this business, and
this qualifies me to voice my opinions—even if the voice is just writing a few
stories about them.
This certainly doesn’t mean I know all the answers about upland hunting. I learn
something new every day I spend outdoors: almost every time I talk to another
hunter, no matter if he’s a beginner or a graybeard like me, every time I read a
hunting article. I wish I could sort it out well enough to give specific credit for all
the bits and pieces, but after decades of reading and talking and writing and
thinking and even of studying, it’s all so interwoven in my mind that it’s
impossible to know just where some particular item came from. Maybe it doesn’
t really matter. Nevertheless, I‘d like all my hunting friends who might read this
and those who will never have the chance to know how much I appreciate the
days we spent together in the briars and the other thick places. What they taught
me and what we learned together are important to me and hopefully some of it
will be helpful to you. As I said a few lines back I don’t pretend to know it all, so it’
s highly likely that your experiences with a given bird hunting or trap shooting
event  will be different to some extent, and that your solutions to certain
problems will be different. No matter. There’s more than one way to skin a
squirrel and so long as the job gets done, that’s all that matters.
I told you that I have been hunting for more than 40 years. That’s a long time in
anybody’s life span. But I’ve been shooting far longer. Ever since my 10th
birthday when I was given a Daisy air rifle as a gift. This is well over a half
century ago. I couldn't’t cock it the first few times and dad had to do it for me
until I learned how to place it between my legs and pull the lever back.  Anyway
from that event on I’v had many a shotgun or rifle and fired many rounds of
shells. No one really learns gun handling safety in just a few weeks of basic
training or any other type of school, its take a life time.
Enough said about that. This web site is about bird hunting and reloading
shotgun shells. I hope you find something interesting and helpful on the pages of
this site.
Good luck hunting!
